John Butler trio’s OCEAN (on repeat, sitting cross-legged on the Dubai airport floor) inspired me to write this… Enjoy.

Ocean inspired Poetry [unedited]

When i wrote this poem i was listening to the 5 minute plus recording of this song on repeat.

Whereas you guys have the ‘best recording ever’ of Ocean to accompany my poem: So go ahead and listen. It’s my heart-stopping, heart-warming favourite. Especially in an airport. It took me miles away and chucked me into this visionary day-dream:

Begins, amid the aftermath of a big night.

Friends waking up, one at a time

searching for the common morning elixir,

feet slapping the cool kitchen floor

loud, in the morning stillness.

Then,

Laughs mingle reliving last night

laughs awaken dream-bodies

who stumble out (into the scene)

facing the new day,

any which way – in shorts and singlets,

Hungover.

Gravitate to sunny spots,

sit huddled and cozy and

cuddles in the kitchen.

The momentum picks up to

create- memories,

forming pictures in the morning minds.

Collision of voices ricochet against each other-

groan sigh ah Where is my other shoe?

mingling with beginnings of smiles…

caught between heartbeats,

some missed in the blinding sunlight.

Comes to a close in an amalgamation

of sounds spattered with emotion,

laughter edging on hysteria,

the beginning of a new day is at it’s climax

when…

Friends remember and hurtle

memories around the room,

like ping-pong balls,

before they exit.
